Gunner has been diagnosed with double inlet left ventricle ( DILV ). DILV is a very rare congenital heart defect that affects about 5 in every 100,000 babies. Below is a link describing what DILV is
Double Inlet Left Ventricle DILV
Gunner will be delivered August 5th and is expected to undergo his first surgery within his first week here. He will stay in the hospital for about 8 weeks post surgery. He will need to return to the hospital for his second surgery around 6 months of age, then again another surgery when he's 3. Over the next few years MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital will be our new home away from home, which is 2 hours away.
Dealing with this difficult diagnosis has put tremendous emotional, physical, and financial stress on our family. We realize that this entails a difficult road with many hardships ahead. Doing this on our own seems next to impossible and we will probably need to lean on our family and friends for support.
There are no words to express how much we truly appreciate all the love, prayers, and support! We believe in God and we hope that people with big hearts will help us save the tiny heart of our precious baby. Any amount will help and be very much appreciated, thank you for helping Gunner and giving him the gift of a new heart.
