HEART HEALTH for Shawna Marie Landon

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am fundraising for my BEST friend, Shawna Landon! She recently discovered that she has a very weak heart! However, before I talk to you about her health situation, let me first explain why I feel so compelled to reach out to help her! And when you understand my WHY, you too, will have fallen in love with her and will want to do as much as possible to help keep her healthy!

Shawna and I met several years ago when she was working for a previous employer of mine. I had decided to go back to work with this company, when I discovered that Shawna had been filling the many hats previously worn by me! So when I came in looking to be re hired, Shawna was feeling a bit nervous, after all, I did leave a small legacy behind when I left the company to venture out on my own.

Instead of allowing her nerves show, this beautiful soul made a b line to the office I was being interviewed in and said very boldly "So, THIS is my competition!?" And I loved her from that moment! Her bravery was the very first personality trait that I was introduced to and to be honest, I was the one nervous of her! She was already very loved in the office and I had been away for a while. That meant that I would have to work hard to regain my position! But rather than competing against each other, we found that we made one hell of a team together!

Over the years, we have been there for each other in some very dark times of our lives. And I want to tell you, this lady has been a BEST FRIEND to MANY! More than that, she has been a MOTHER to MANY! Shawna is the most selfless person I know! She has stepped up to take care of many other mother's children when she was a struggling single mother herself! She NEVER allowed money to be an excuse to not make a better life for not only her own children, but the many others that still call her "mom" ! The children that have been in her home, always come back, because she made it their home, too! And we all know our grown kids always come back home!

I have seen her pull kids to graduation and support them in any life choices that they made. She has carpooled them to practices and games. She has been on the sidelines, cheering them on when their own parents were nowhere to be found! This woman is extraordinary! I wish I could be half the woman she is! And that is why I am asking for your support! She has much pride, like many strong women do! It pains her to ask for help because she has always been the one helping, or better yet, actively doing!

Five weeks ago, Shawna was not feeling so well and drove herself to the Emergency Room with chest pains and a very bad headache. Within a few hours, a few tests, and very little support (she drove herself and no one knew she was there alone) she discovered that her heart was failing her! HER HEART of all things that could go wrong! HER HEART, the great BIG one that LOVES so deep and so pure, was failing her! HER HEART, the one that so many have broken, the one she mended time and time again so that she herself, could stand strong FOR OTHERS! And when I got the call, she was still trying to be strong for everyone else by acting as if everything was fine because she knew that information about her heart would break the hearts of those that love her!

Her heart was only pumping at 25% the day she went to the ER! It's only been a few weeks and a couple of Dr visits later, and her heart is weakening at every pump! She is now at 15%, on a heart monitor, sick leave from work (that hurts her because she has always been a provider) and prescribed several medicines that we never even heard of! Unfortunately, while she has been out on sick leave from work, her employer dropped her insurance. We are so devastated! She is unable to afford the medicine that is supposed to help strengthen her heart so that she can endure other procedures. Entresto is the prescribed medicine, along with several others, that she NEEDS TO BE ON RIGHT AWAY! And the out of pocket cost ranges from $596.00 to over $700.00! That is only for ONE prescription. There are four+ more that need to be filled! And a HEART monitor she will need to carry with her for observation until she is able to go through the other procedures to strengthen her heart!

The amount that I am trying to raise will hopefully help her to keep her prescriptions filled and help her financially while she is unable to work. She is applying for programs that could assist her, however, the process is long and she just simply does not have time to play with! I myself, will continue to help her any way that I can, but I am in no way able to do it alone! I NEED YOUR HELP! I feel so useless watching her go through this! She has no family here in North Carolina outside of her son, who is still too young to carry this financial burden! And although she has given herself to so many others, not many have stepped up to help her! THIS BREAKS MY HEART FOR HER!

PLEASE know that ANYTHING helps! Even if it is change in the bottom of your purse or wallet! It will help with Uber rides to doctor appointments, prescriptions that she MUST BE ON, financial support to keep her with rent and utilities on! Again, she has applied for help through programs offered in our area, such as emergency rental programs and medicaid and other resources. She has been met with obstacles with only COVID related issues being addressed , meaning that since her issues are not related to COVID, she is being denied in a lot of the programs being offered!
