My name is Maziah Powell and I was born on
February 19, 2020 weighing  6lbs 4.2oz. I seemed to be a healthy, happy and chunky baby. I was learning my new family, getting to know my big sister Marissa, and figuring out how much I love to chew on my fingers & toes.

Just last month I began to have problems breathing so my mommy and grandma took me to the hospital. The doctors diagnosed me with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This is a heart condition in which the heart becomes enlarged and can not pump blood like it should. Having this condition will require me to have a heart transplant.

Since my diagnosis I have been in and out of the hospital for the last two months. I have been poked with needles, placed on several different heart medications, had surgery to repair a hernia and had a feeding tube placed in my tummy.

The doctors say I have to maintain a certain weight and make sure I am receiving the right nutrients so that when my transplant day arrives I will be strong enough to receive a new heart.

I was able to come home but not until all the proper measures were taken. My mommy has to ensure all of my 8 medications and supplements are being taken throughout the day and night. She also has to make sure my feeding pump is working properly so that I can stay as healthy as possible. This means she can no longer work.

Through all of this I continue to smile and blow as many spit bubbles as I can. No matter what pain I am in I will continue to be strong for my family and know they will be strong for me.
