A Heart for Eric!

Introduction
Hey everyone, wanted to just give some information and let you know why we are setting up this GoFundMe for Eric and his family. The good news is that Eric was the successful recipient of a Heart Transplant in November of 2020. He and Sharon flew up to the Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, and are still there. There is a long road to recovery with medical treatment and lots of rehabilitation and conditioning.

About Eric
Eric is the kind of person who is alway the first to volunteer to help, and the last to ask for help. Whether we know him as the loving husband, caring father of his two precious girls Lily and Leila, brother, relative, best friend, or just the tall guy bringing coffee and pastries in the morning. He has touched all of our lives with his perpetual smile and infectious positivity. For all that we have received from him in the past, now is a chance we have to give back.

History
Eric has been battling a heart condition for over 15 years. An avid surfer and waterman, he has seen his activity level gradually diminish as he had to give up his cherished pastimes. He had a pacemaker placed in 2013, and continued to be active through his daughters, coaching and participating in their softball and soccer games. Unfortunately, his heart function dropped to the point where he only had 10-15% left. He continued to smile and work everyday to the point where few even knew he was sick. He always lived life to the fullest.

Treatment
Eric had the opportunity to do an ablation procedure in California, which would delay the inevitable - a heart transplant. A “simple” procedure, he left with Sharon expecting to be gone for 1 week. “I’ll see you next week, braddah!” He was always upbeat and positive, and most of all, had trust and faith in God. The ablation procedure took 12 hours on October 22, 2020 but there were complications and Eric’s heart became unstable. The inevitable time had come.

Transplant
Eric received two heart transplants within a 2 week period. He was given the first Heart on 11/4/2020 and unfortunately it never started beating on its own. He was then moved to highest priority on the West Coast and received another Heart on 11/10/2020 which immediately started beating on its own.

Recovery
Eric was given a pacemaker for his new heart on 11/30/2020 and is now being transferred from Stanford to a long term rehabilitation facility in San Francisco. The road to recovery will take months with 24 hour care and numerous follow-up visits to the hospital. The requirement is to stay within a close proximity to Stanford Medical Center and will require Sharon to be his sole Caregiver.

Expenses
Sharon and Eric will be in the San Francisco Bay Area for the next few months until he is cleared to travel. The Leanos are willing to do whatever is necessary to ensure Eric's recovery. This is our opportunity to help out and give back to the Leanos who have given so much to all of us over the years.
Please join us in prayer and if possible consider making a donation to this amazing family.
