Hello everyone, on January 22nd, 2025, around 9 AM, I was experiencing some chest pain on my way to work. By roughly 9:30, I had taken 2 nitroglycerins, and my friend Oscar was rushing me to the ER. Within minutes of arriving, I was diagnosed as being in the middle of a heart attack and was rushed to the OR. While on the table, my heart went into Vfib.
Being uneducated on this, I had to look it up. It's basically an erratic heartbeat which caused a full-on cardiac arrest. I required 2 jump starts, the second of which dislodged a blood clot in my LAD. I then received a new stent to help with blood flow. I then developed pneumonia right after leaving the hospital, just for good measure.
I am lucky to be alive. Apparently, VFib has a 50% survival rate. I’ve always joked I’ve never won anything; I’ll consider this a huge win.
It’s been a month since the surgery. I like to think I’m recovering well. I literally don’t remember the first 10 days. Recovery has been insanely tough for me. I lost my voice for about 20 days, and my mobility is still pretty limited. I can walk a grocery store finally, but not without a rest. My mental acuity feels down as well. Besides gaps in my memory, I feel sluggish.
Overall, I think I'm doing great! I'm on a fantastic diet and lost about 10 pounds. I've prioritized lowering my stress levels and making real life changes. Expectedly though, the bills have started to show up, and they are big. The total hospital stay was over $155k, and thank God for insurance, but still, my portion of that is over $30,000. I hope to negotiate that down to something regular people can pay off, but in the meantime, I am hoping to raise some funds to help me with this cost. Every bit helps, thank you for your time reading all this.
