On January 4th, my stepdad went into cardiac arrest while at work.
He collapsed, hitting his head and ultimately dying right there in the Walmart bathroom.
He was so lucky that a Pepsi vendor was there with him.
That man saved my stepdad's life.
He jumped into action, performing CPR until the EMTs arrived.
After fighting for his life, he has miraculously made almost a full recovery.
He had to have a defibrillator implanted in his chest, but thankfully, he is still with us.
Now, after fighting for his life, the doctor bills are rolling in. He was the main provider for both him and my mom.
They did everything right...
They have health insurance and they have short-term disability. However, what you don't get told is you have to wait for short-term disability to get approved; it only pays part of your check, so guess what... any vacation time saved up you now put towards your check to hope that there will be enough just to cover the insurances that are automatically deducted while you wait for your approval.
Not to mention all the CT scans being performed due to the relentless headaches requiring 20% of the coat upfront to get the answers you so desperately need.
They have told him that it will be 6 months before he can drive, yet are encouraging him to work during that time.
Imagine dying, being lucky enough to be saved, only to be told to get back to work.
That's what Americans face.
That's what my stepdad is facing.
We are fundraising to help cover the mounting medical bills and support my stepdad and mom during this challenging time.
