Hearing and Healing for Hannah

Donation protected

My sister Hannah has a benign brain tumor pressing against her brain stem. She is already deaf in her left ear since birth and now when she gets the tumor removed she will be completely deaf in both ears.. oh, and to top it all off she has 3 month old baby girl. BUT with your help and generosity, there is hope to restore some sense of normalcy. She can regain some hearing in her left ear with a cochlear implant, but she needs help to pay the medical bills.

Here's The Full Story:
My sister Hannah gave birth to her daughter Hazel on January 4, 2020. When she was pregnant, she complained about a consistent nerve pain that would shoot through her face. After the baby was born she was finally able to get an MRI to figure out what was going on.

They called and told Hannah that she has a brain tumor. It's called a  schwanoma tumor and it's on the right side of her brain. This tumor is pushing against the brain stem and is intertwined in the auditory nerve. It is benign, thank God, but still life-threatening if not removed.

Removing this tumor will remove the auditory nerve as well, and Hannah will be left completely deaf in her right ear. This especially sucks because Hannah is already deaf in her left ear (since birth).

Surgery to remove the brain tumor will, in essence, render her completely deaf.

Luckily, Hannah is able to get a cochlear implant in her left ear to regain some of her hearing. It will take time and patience to relearn how to hear, but thank God she has that option!

We are waiting to hear when the surgeries will be, as we are currently dealing with a pandemic in this country! Pending MRI results, we hope that she will be able to do the cochlear implant surgery before the brain tumor removal surgery. That would be ideal, so she can still hear something when she wakes up after brain tumor removal surgery.

If a brain tumor, going deaf, being a new mom, and a pandemic weren't enough, Hannah's insurance is out of network for both UH and Cleveland Clinic, the only two hospitals who can treat this type of situation. Because of the out of network coverage, Hannah and her family are required to pay 50% deposits on all treatment before it is provided. With brain surgery and cochlear implant surgery, this is A LOT of money that she will need before the doctors can save her life.

Hannah is staying positive and ready to take on this challenge. She is determined to get adjusted to this new "normal" so that she can focus on her baby, her business, and teaching. We are hoping to raise 20k to help offset the cost of her medical care. A brain tumor and loss of hearing are enough to worry about! Please help Hannah!
