I suffer from severe tinnitus and have mild/moderate hearing loss. It's bilateral, however my left ear has more pronounced tinnitus. I also have misophonia (certain sounds annoy me and can be painful) and unexplained earaches, where my ears have randomly started hurting and traditional painkillers do not work to relieve the pain.
I have unfortunately spent thousands of dollars on doctor visits, treatments that failed me, medicines, supplements and alternative medicine. Nothing has helped even slightly. I am seeking disability, however it's a long process in Poland and since I'm an American I do not have traditional health insurance (NFZ) that covers hearing aids. My private health insurance doesn't cover costs either, only certain doctor visits and a portion of the tests.
I have seeked help from ENTs, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, GP's, Psychiatrists, Psychotherapists and Audiologists. Other than a change of diet, hearing aids were recommended. I'm looking into the Widex or Starkey brands, however at my hearing aid appointment on October 1st, I will discuss the best options with my ENT. I am visiting the best facility in Poland in Kajetany for this, and have been waiting a few months now for this visit. My MRI and EEG results have proved negative for any serious concerns like tumors and diseases, however my EEG results came in that my brain activity is a bit slow for my age of 21.
If hearing aids are deemed unnecessary at any point in the visit, the money will then be used for a similar priced device that came out for tinnitus: Lenire Neuromodulation. I have applied for an appointment with Lenire Ireland back in June, however my visit will be sometime in 2020. The cost for the device + travel would be around $3,000.
The $4,500 that I ask for is because I'm having financial trouble paying for such expensive devices, and I cannot get any more credit from my banks. My debts have grown massively thanks to my illness, I am unable to work and have difficulty with day to day life because of my hearing loss/tinnitus, alongside my visual snow and dp/dr. This is all a result of side effects from a prescribed medicine I took back in December, Pregabalin. I will test various models at fitting.
Since the beginning of this year, my tinnitus has been present. We're approaching 300 days now with it slowly, but steadily. You can track my journey on my YouTube channel (video is linked inside showing how it's like to live with my condition), or my posts on Tinnitustalk.com (AVIYT).
I do not wish for this condition on anyone, as there is no current cure. Hearing aids might help, it's not guaranteed, but it's one of my last options now. I've tried pretty much everything I could that wasn't as expensive as this. I feel silly that I need to setup a crowdfunding page for this, but my financial situation has never been this dire. I was forced to move back in with my family, and my family has been providing financial support since the beginning of this year, however they cannot cover all the costs as it's simply too much money.
Thank you. I hope for a cure one day.
*Update* I have visited Kajetany and am testing out Resound GN Linx 3D hearing aids in both ears for 2 weeks, free of charge. I will then test another pair of hearing aids, and will pick within 3 weeks or so. I have further testing to do, but I will update you guys with a video. Resound Linx 3D price in poland is around $4,400 plus costs for the Kajetany clinic come out to around $150 that have been paid so far.
