Hello! My name is Kate Andree, I was born completely deaf in my left ear and partially deaf in my right ear. I am making this go fund me so that I can get the hearing aids that I need! I used to have hearing aids when I was a child, and unfortunately as I grew the technology became so old that they weren't able to calibrate them to my hearing needs, and I grew too big for those hearing aids; therefore, I am in need for some new ones.
Part of how I communicate with others is lip reading. As expected, work and just communicating with people in general has been harder on myself than it already was before the pandemic because everyone is wearing masks.
I do have insurance, and unfortunately, they deem it being as "elective" therefore I am responsible for the full amount of the hearing aids.
Some problems I have faced because of not having hearing aids is that my cat flooded my apartment accruing 5k in damages because I couldn't hear the water running, and my apartment was broken into and I didn't know because I didn't hear the person breaking in.
I just had a job interview the other day that I am very excited about!! It's becoming more dire than ever to get these hearing aids so that way I can better do my job, hear the simple pleasures such as rain, hear potential dangers, and not have to exert so much energy just do a simple thing as trying to hear what someone is saying, something that I should be able to do without even thinking about it.
I think now that others have experienced what it is like trying to hear someone through a mask, you have been given an idea what it is like in the world of someone who is deaf/hard of hearing. Now imagine, already being deaf and hard of hearing and then trying to go about in a world where lips are covered and voices are more muffled - not to mention the added safety measures of plexiglass partitions.
If you would like more information before making your decision, such as my hearing results, feel free to reach out to me directly and I would be happy to supply them.
I would like to thank you in advance for any help and support that I can get trying to get these hearing aids. I can't tell you how much I would appreciate it!!
