Hearing aids - Cross Aid
Donation protected
Hi my name is Hannah, on 5th November 2024 my life completely changed. I was admitted into hospital, sedated then put into a coma for investigation. While in the coma the ICU team performed 2 lumber punctures on me which confirmed I had pneumococcal (bacterial) meningitis. Luckily the ICU and HDU team were outstanding and they saved my life.
Where I was in a coma all my muscles hadn’t been used so I have to re learn basic things like to walk.
Meningitis in adults is very rare, but it happens and it can leave people with life altering conditions. For myself I am now deaf, profoundly in my left ear & moderately my right ear.
after review with the audiologist I have tried the generic hearing aids from NHS however I am really struggling with the ones provided.
I have been informed there is another viable option which is called a cross aid where they take hearing in my ‘good’ ear and feed it into my other ear for 360 hearing however for these types of hearing aids I have to self fund which is £2000 for the cheapest set.
Any contributions would be appreciated so I can hopefully hear again ❤️
