In April 2022, as some of you know, John and I offered our home to two teens, a girl, 18, and her brother, 14, whose mother was deported. Now that they are safe, with a roof over their heads and food, we are working on neglected health issues. Our local dentist, Dr. William Simon of City Smiles, gave them each a thorough exam at a reduced cost. Unfortunately, they both need extensive work, filling cavities and repairing missing and failing dental work from years ago. The total cost, after a 25% discount offered by our dentist, is $33,945. John and I can pay some of this, but not all! Any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated and would mean we could begin work on the most urgent areas (all the work will take at least a year to complete).
Thank you!
More info if you are curious:
Their mother has given us permission to seek medical treatment for them.
In June they each graduated with honors, received several awards, and have been accepted into college and a Chicago magnet high school, respectively.
Our generous eye doctor, Dr. Chad Millsap, of Urban Eyecare, donated an exam and glasses for the boy and an exam and contacts for the girl.
They qualify for free health insurance from the State of Illinois; we are working on that paperwork now.
