Women's Health, Women's Futures - In Women's Hands

The Lily Project is a women-centered nonprofit organization that provides health care to prevent cervical cancer as well as sexual and reproductive health education to Nicaragua's most vulnerable women and girls.
Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death of young women in Nicaragua, and the teen pregnancy rate is the highest in the western hemisphere. When Lily protects a woman's health it is protecting her children and their futures as well.
The Lily Project's Impact:

24,880 Girls Educated
590 Villages Visited
$10 Cost Per Woman
1,120 eHealth Consultations
Since its inception in 2016, The Lily Project's two mobile clinics, staffed by Nicaraguan nurses, have visited close to 600 rural villages, screened more than 20,000 women for cervical cancer, and saved approximately 1,600 lives – at the cost of $10 per woman! Lily has also provided sexual and reproductive health education to nearly 25,000 girls, and has recently conducted over 1,100 virtual health consultations.

Lily's New Virtual Health Initiatives Expand Services to Prevent Disease and Promote Emotional Wellbeing
To advance its life-saving work, Lily recently launched a virtual women’s health program, which brings together Telehealth services and digital health education. Lily's digital health pilot-program demonstrated that most women in rural Nicaragua use mobile phones and are willing to utilize technology to improve their health and wellness.

Using digital applications and texting, Lily's new services extend beyond the geographical regions reached by its mobile health clinics - adding another layer of support to amplify Lily's impact.
The virtual program increases Lily's ability to provide cervical cancer screenings, treatment, and health management services throughout a woman's lifetime. It also offers education that contributes to a woman's knowledge of sexual and reproductive health.

Importantly, the virtual health initiatives enable Lily to address other vital needs, including counseling for sexual abuse and gender-based violence, and simplify referrals to its network of OB-GYN doctors, pediatricians, mental health counselors, and psychologists.
The Lily Project is Creating a Worldwide Community of Women Supporting Women

The Lily Project began as a desire by one brave and ambitious individual to protect Nicaraguan women from cervical cancer. Anielka Medina was a teen when she experienced the loss of her mother, Azucena (Lily), to the disease. This experience inspired Anielka to Co-Found The Lily Project where she is the Executive Director.
