Since November 2021, Wichana Foundation has sponsored six medical and dental brigades to provide free care and medicine to the indigenous Siona people in the Cuyabeno area of the Amazon rainforest. Today, there may be fewer than 500 Siona people on the planet! The communities we serve are in the remote Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, four hours from the nearest hospital.
We are finalizing plans for our seventh brigade visit, to take place in April of this year.
Our team, and our ability to meet our patients needs, has grown with each visit. Joining the team will be two specialists who will teach parents the importance of proper childhood nutrition and practical information on how to improve family diets. In addition, this year we will be bringing two mobile dental stations for the first time.
Because our team volunteers their time, our primary costs are travel, food and lodging and medicine. As the team has grown in number, our costs grow too. We need to raise $8,000 in the next six weeks to pay for the 2026 brigade costs.
Can you please open your heart again and donate what you can?
