Healthcare Hero Recovering From Heart Transplant

Donation protected
Todd Zortman has spent the last 30 years helping take care of patients as a RN Wound Care Specialist. Now, let's give back to this healthcare hero in Indianapolis who has given so much of his time to others.

Todd suffered a heart attack in 2020 and returned back to work shortly thereafter. He then contracted COVID-19 which didn't help his health situation. After recovering, he went back to work again to only go to a cardiologist checkup where he was instructed to go check into the hospital asap.

After spending 120 days in the ICU, he finally got the news that a donor heart was a match. After a successful surgery and recovery, he was released to go home on Friday, October 15, 2021. All of the prayers from friends and family were answered, and in Todd's own words "I hung my head out the window like a dog on the way home after finally being discharged."

Now that he is home resting, family and friends are taking turns helping him navigate this major change in his life. A strong, independent man who loved to scuba dive and travel is now restricted in just about anything he can do. And the reality of bills is starting to hit. His loss of salary and medical bills is already over $75,000. While disability insurance is some help, it is only 60% of his salary, and the soonest he can go back to work at absolute best case would be on a part-time basis sometime in February. And several months from then before going back full-time.

The last thing someone who has taken care of others for years needs to worry about is this financial burden. He needs to be able to focus on his recovery which is why I set up this fundraiser for him. Every little bit helps, so thank you in advance!

Please share this post, especially with health care workers who can relate to his situation. And all prayers for him to continue to get better are appreciated. And a prayer for the donor's family would also be appreciated as we hope knowing they saved my uncle's life is giving them some piece of mind.

Thanks to all!
