Healthcare and Vehicle Repair for Stacy and Dan
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Dan. I live in Maryland with my partner Stacy, and we've hit a tough time.
Stacy is disabled and needs to get into a specialized healthcare program for a nine-month course of treatment. Unfortunately, it's a program not covered by insurance, and she needs to enroll at the end of October with payment up front.
In addition, we just found out we need car repairs - new brakes and a new serpentine belt - if we want to get around safely. We live in the suburbs, so public transportation isn't an option. We don't have to drive much, but enough that having no vehicle is more than just an inconvenience, even during a pandemic when we're trying to keep leaving home at a minimum.
I have a good job, but a disabled partner means we're close to being a one-income household, and between that and medical expenses we don't have a lot of opportunities to shore up for emergencies like this. We've already cut non-essentials and cancelled our cable and other subscriptions, but those are a drop in the bucket compared to the costs we're facing.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you how broken the American healthcare system is regarding what insurance doesn't cover, and how difficult it can be for disabled people to get the treatment they need. Donating to this fundraiser helps alleviate that hardship for us. And helping us get our car in safe working order also supports a local Black-owned small business and the most honest mechanic I've ever known.
I can't tell you how much I hate asking for help like this, but we've had to admit we can't take care of this on our own. We're grateful for anything you can donate to help get us through this.
