Hey guys,
Ill be spending two weeks volunteering with the small medical team from Med'Equali (NGO) at the Vathy refugee camp, Samos, Greece this February 2019. The money raised will go directly towards the purchase of urgent medicines and other desperately needed medical supplies. There are NO OTHER MEDICAL NGO's PRESENT anymore.
As you may know Samos is a Greek island very close to Turkey where many refugees are escaping desperate and threatening situations by taking a dangerous journey across the Aegean Sea.
Samos only has one camp, Vathy, which has a capacity of 650 but is currently hosting in excess of 4000 people. People from countries including, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Cameroun, Democratic Republic Congo are stranded there in cramped conditions, with many families living in tents throughout winter. Sanitary and hygiene issues are very common and as such, so are infectious and respiratory diseases, amongst many others.
The Med'Equali Clinic is a centre which offers free, daily, primary healthcare for the asylum-seekers living on Samos. As well as treatment, they focus on preventive health care, both in individual consultations and through information sessions about different topics such as reproductive health and mental health.
The clinic runs entirely on donations and funds of those who have volunteered to set this up and work there. All funds raised will go directly to the running of the clinic and to enable them to purchase the urgently required medical supplies and medicines.
It would mean so much to these people who have been through so much and are continuing to suffer in unimaginable ways. Please give what you can, no amount is too small, let's try to make a difference.
