Health & Hygiene Kits for Pakistan

Over 400 million people in Pakistan lack access to adequate healthcare, and close to 100,000 people die annually as a result of poor sanitation and water. Over half of these deaths are children under the age of 5.

My name is Amina Zubairi, and I am undertaking a service project focused on improving health and hygiene services in underprivileged communities in Pakistan, placing a special emphasis on women and children, as they are often the groups most severely impacted.

My aim is to increase access to and provide basic hygiene and health products to those in need. To meet this goal, I will be in Karachi in the coming weeks to prepare and deliver hygiene kits to distribute to families in need and will also be raising funds to assist in ongoing efforts to combat this health crisis. Each kit costs $25, and my goal is to distribute a minimum of 100 kits. I am partnering with Aahung, a NGO based in Karachi, to provide products that can help and to educate women and children around potential solutions to the ongoing hygiene crisis. Each item we deliver can significantly reduce the chances of disease and infection, while simultaneously providing education on prevention. My hope is that this awareness will help combat any stigmas surrounding health and hygiene, such as the ongoing shame regarding the menstrual cycle and hygiene complications that arise from it, and that the products we deliver will assist entire families with combatting problems stemming from poor health and sanitation services.
