Hello everyone, my name is Ricardo.

Life has recently taken an unexpected and challenging turn for me. I live with sickle cell disease, and while I’ve managed it pretty well for most of my life, my condition has now reached a point where I need consistent medical care and support.

My health is deteriorating at a rapid rate and Insurance is refusing to pay for any of my procedures/hospital stays claiming my hospitalizations due not meet their requirements. Over the past year, I’ve battled several serious health issues, including pancreatitis, infections, and cholecystitis. I’ve undergone procedures involving cutting open my chest and implanting medical devices. It’s been incredibly hard, but I’ve pushed forward day after day.

These things have made it increasingly difficult to work and maintain financial stability. Despite these challenges, I have begun new treatments, like exchange transfusions and medications designed to protect my organs, in the hope of stabilizing my health, preventing further complications, and ultimately regaining my strength.

My health struggles extend beyond myself. My mother has cancer, and watching her struggle to cope with both my health deteriorating and her own battle with cancer, all while dealing with the lingering effects of chemotherapy, has been incredibly difficult. Supporting her and bringing her comfort will always come first, even if it means setting aside my own medications, treatments, or basic needs. I’ll make that sacrifice.

Staying consistent with my medical care and daily needs is my best chance at recovery, regaining my strength, and eventually returning to work, all while continuing to care for my mother. Any support you can offer will go directly toward my medical expenses and living costs, so I can keep supporting both of us as we work toward healing and recovery.
