Dumeha's Healing Team Supreme

Donation protected
In January 2015 Dumeha was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.  By July it spread and became stage 4 metastasized breast cancer.  She intends to explore the range of alternative treatments including intensive anti cancer holistic health centers in the US and possibly abroad.  Although this was a jarring realization, it moved her to the understanding that this is not a death sentence but an opportunity to heal.  Anyone who knows Dumeha knows she is full of life and determined to dance over and eradicate diagnoses.

In case you are not familiar with all the work and commitment to community that Dumeha has fostered over the years let us refresh or reintroduce you.

As a writer, actor, director, producer, designer and teaching artist, Dumeha has lent her performance and production skills, educational training and love to a vast number of projects and communities throughout New York City including the Creative Arts Team-CUNY, Sista II Sista, Community Counseling and Mediation, Freedom H.S. Academy, Urban Academy for Young Men, MUD/BONE, The New Victory Theater, 1199 SEIU and the Schomburg Center for Research and Black Culture.  As if that were not enough, Dumeha is a co-founder of Rivers of Honey-A Womyn of Color Cabaret (WOW Café Theater) and is a creative team member of the sketch comedy group AMERICAN CANDY.

Anyone who knows Dumeha knows she also likes to laugh and have good time.  You are mistaken if you think you are going to out-twirl her on the dance floor. Dumeha is part of a large soulful HOUSE dance community in Brooklyn and around NYC where so many like-minded spirits find solace in the music.  Whether at the Wonder-Full Party with DJ Spinna, Libation with DJ Ian Friday or Soul Summit with DJs Sadiq and Tabu, you will find Dumeha dancing and sharing her joy through the day into the night.

Although Dumeha is currently working she recently came to the realization of how important it is that she slow down and cut back (if not totally out) her work in order to make the process of healing her main focus.  We also believe that to be true and are here to support her on that mission. Of course well wishes and prayers are integral to this healing process, but is it our hope to help Dumeha avoid additional stress by not having to worry about financial concerns (rent, bills, treatments, etc.) if she chooses to stop working all together so that she can focus on her healing.

Many of the specialists and complementary treatments that she needs are not covered by insurance.  Dumeha is not putting all of her trust in Western medicine alone, nor should she.  She has chosen to exhaust every means, by any means necessary to put this behind her. So it is for this reason and in that spirit that she needs your help and we know that you are willing to pitch in.  We all want to see Dumeha on the dance floor and on stage again very soon!

Dumeha has put so much love and heart into the arts and education communities in Brooklyn and NYC.  She is a sister and a friend to so many and now is the time to support her on this healing journey.  Let’s take this stress off her head and support her walk back to optimal health.  Where two or three are gathered together ... all is possible!  Join our team and be part of the love fest that is about to shower upon our sister Dumeha.
Give Thanks!
