Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy 

Adeline was born full term, natural birth. No complications. She smiled, rolled at the "appropriate" months. She cried a lot as a baby and never really slept well.  She didn't sit up until about 9 months. After that she did not crawl or walk. Our pediatrician at the time didn't seem too concerned. We then took her to a Neurologist. They did a EEG and a MRI right away. The EEG showed seizure activity. The MRI was fine. As she got older she began to have more and more seizures. She had a lot of head drops seizures also known as Atonic seizures. We had to get her a helmet and try a bunch of different medications.  She started crawling at 22 months and then moved to pulling herself up and side stepping! We were thrilled! She was progressing! We did the Modified Atkins diet for @ 8 months and that worked really well and controlled her seizures. But then her seizures started to come back.  We then decided to try another seizure medication called Valproic acid.  It really helped with seizure control, but it made her a vegetable for 2 weeks. She started to come out of it and her seizures were still well controlled. Her eating ability started to decline and we thought it was due to the Valproic Acid. We were forcing food and medication into her.  We then decided along with the doctors and her therapist that she should get a feeding tube. Then just this October, she lost the ability to crawl and pull to stand.  The doctor's and therapist all thought she was just really weak from lack of nutrition. But her crawling and pulling to stand never came back. We just had her MRI done again and her brain is shrinking, she is losing white and grey matter. We do not yet have a specific reason why. The neurologist and genetic doctor are working together to figure this out. We have done so much testing and we do not yet have the science to find her diagnosis. We do not know what will happen in her future. How long she will live.  Will her brain will stabilize or continue to shrink? We are running on Faith and hope and thanking God for what we have and don’t have. We know that he does have a bigger plan for her and for us. 
We are hoping to do an alternative treatment for her called hyperbaric oxygen. It is a type of therapy that is not covered by insurance and is pretty expensive. It helps repair damaged cells in the brain and regenerates them. It is used in much different illness including: Seizures, Parkinson disease, ALS, carbon monoxide poisoning, burn victims and many, many more.
