Four years ago, my mom suffered a devastating hemorrhagic stroke (a brain bleed) that left doctors telling us she wouldn’t make it through the next 24 hours. By the grace of God, she has defied the odds and is still here with us today. These past four years have been full of challenges, with her needing total care and frequent stays at various medical facilities.
As her only child, I have worked tirelessly alongside my husband to ensure she gets the care she needs, all while raising our young children in a small home that unfortunately cannot accommodate her full-time. Despite these difficulties, a recent blessing has given us hope: we now have a vehicle equipped to transport her safely on a stretcher, which means we can finally bring her home for short visits.
Bringing her home, even for just a few hours, would mean the world to her and our family, especially to her three grandchildren, who would love to see her in a familiar and loving environment. However, for her to be comfortable and safe during these visits, we urgently need a specialized Barton chair (or transfer chair), which will allow her to sit up and be part of family activities. Sadly, because she isn’t coming home permanently yet, insurance won’t cover the cost of this essential equipment.
Additionally, we want to give her the best chance to regain some of her strength and communication abilities by arranging in-home therapy sessions. Over her 4 years in different facilities, she has faced heartbreaking complications, including a partial amputation of her tongue and a severe neck contraction, which have made it even harder for her to receive quality care. She is alert, aware, and tries to communicate in every way she can, but it has been years since she has spoken due to her past tracheostomy (which, thankfully, has been removed).
Her strength and will to fight have been inspiring, but she deserves more—more dignity, more comfort, and more time with the family she loves. Despite battling lupus and needing dialysis, she continues to be a warrior.
We are humbly asking for your support. Your generous donations will go toward:
Purchasing a Barton chair/transfer chair for her comfort
Arranging in-home therapy to give her a chance at improved quality of life
Every little bit helps, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this story. We are forever grateful for your kindness, and we hope to bring some moments of joy and normalcy to her life, surrounded by her grandchildren and loved ones.
Thank you for your love, support, and prayers.
