Gracie's Rescue Healing & Surgery

Saturday, February 10th, I spotted this little sweetie in the middle of the Interstate - trying to nibble on roadkill.  Pulled over trying not to scare it.  I got out praying she wouldn't run into traffic.  She ran alongside the railing and wouldn't let me get near her.  So, got back in my car, followed her...until she couldn't run anymore.  I could see she was weak and her little legs all beat up.  Got out, cold pouring down rain, and scooped her into my arms.  Skin and bones, and her little paws are all messed up. Got her home, cleaned her up and gave her a can of Louie n Lily's cat food.  Every place I called couldn't see her. Finally, I found Banfield Animal Hospital in Greensboro.  They were wonderful. Doctor Miller immediately started her on IV,  ran all test: worms, heartworm, ticks, intestinal - you name it.  Then, came x-rays on her hip and hindleg.  Results:  the hip and leg have been dislocated for quite some time. She's only 7 lbs, a year old and walks like a 13 yr old dog.  Her poor stomach and intestines are filled with roadkill bones.  He was able to get some of it out.  She's going to require a lot of attention, love and special food.  Once she's nursed back to health, we can take her to a specialist for her hip and leg surgery.  It was by the Grace of God she stayed alive all this time.  I'm sure she was beaten up and abandoned.  So, we decided to name her "Gracie".   My husband and I work full-time and commute. We found a special doggy daycare to watch her during the week.  Her food, daycare and the Banfield Hospital bill is over $900.  Her surgery and rehab will be at least $1500.00.  Any donation is truly appreciated.
