Love, strength, and community carrying the Hansons forward.
On July 17, our amazing friend, Scott, suffered brain bleeds that led to multiple surgeries, weeks in the ICU, and intensive in patient rehab. After nearly two months in hospitals, he is finally coming home this Saturday — but his recovery is just beginning. Scott will need in-home physical therapy, 24/7 support, and ongoing care. Adriane and the kids (Brooklyn and Jackson) will need support with additional childcare & dog walking. Scott has always been “super dad”. Now it’s our turn to support him and his family as he heals.

The Full Story:
Back in May, Scott noticed his right eye wasn’t moving in and out properly. After scans, doctors discovered he was born with a cavernoma — a cluster of abnormal blood vessels — which had bled. That bleed caused swelling and resulted in third nerve palsy, affecting his eye movement. Scott immediately consulted three of the top neurosurgeons in Los Angeles, who explained that while cavernomas can be removed, Scott’s was in a very delicate part of his brain. Surgery carried the risk of major, permanent deficits like loss of speech and memory. At the time, he was told recovery from the nerve palsy would take 3–6 months, and that another bleed was unlikely — but still possible.

Sadly, in July, Scott’s symptoms worsened. On July 10, he developed severe headaches, and by July 18 he was vomiting and unable to open his eyes. Adriane rushed him to the UCLA ER, where he was admitted to the ICU. After nearly two weeks in the ICU, Scott opted for a procedure called an ETV (endoscopic third ventriculostomy) on July 30 to relieve pressure in his brain. He was finally able to come home on August 1.

But just days later, on August 10, unable to move his arms, another bleed sent Scott back to the ICU. On August 14, he underwent major brain surgery to remove the cavernoma that had was causing the brain bleeds and risk of future bleeds. His strength and resilience amazed everyone, and by August 20 he was transferred to inpatient rehab.

On September 5, Scott developed an infection that required him to return to the hospital for yet another surgery. He was able to return to in patient rehab on September 9, where he continues his hard work toward recovery.

Through it all, Scott has shown the same love, grit, and humor that make him the incredible “super dad” we all know him to be. Before this health crisis, Scott was an extremely hands on dad - doing school pickups and drop-offs for Brooklyn and Jackson, cooking meals and packing lunches, walking Ringo the family dog, and thriving in his career as a creative director.

After two long months in the hospital/rehab, Scott, Adriane, and their team of doctors have agreed that Scott can return home this Saturday and continue his road to recovery at home. While this is a huge step, his journey is far from over. He is learning how to walk again, working feverishly to strengthen and open his eyes, and doing PT to regain normal function. Returning home will require ongoing in-home physical therapy, 24/7 support, and a long road of rehabilitation. For Adriane and the kids, this means a new normal —extra childcare a few nights a week, hiring a dog walker for Ringo, managing medical bills, and day-to-day needs while focusing on Scott’s healing.

We are raising funds to help ease this enormous burden. Every contribution — no matter the size — will go directly toward:
• Childcare for Brooklyn and Jackson
• Ringo’s dog walker
• Medical expenses including in-home physical therapy

Scott has always been the one to show up for his family, friends, and community. Now it’s our turn to show up for him. Please consider donating, sharing this page, and sending love and prayers to Scott, Adriane, Brooklyn, and Jackson as they navigate this next chapter.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting this incredible family.

Love,
The Hansons Helpers
