My sister has cancer. I never imagined I would say those words, let alone be creating this fundraiser for her—but here we are.
Tracy has been living an adventurous and healthy lifestyle in the heart of the rocky mountains in Canmore, Alberta as a rock and ice climber, traveling the world, and creatively working a full-time career in the film/TV industry as an independent producer and director. Her passion projects have been focused on documentaries about human stories which have inspired her. Of which, two already shot feature documentaries are waiting in the queue for editing once she is back on her feet and ready to roll.
Tracy had been experiencing digestive issues for over a year, then over the last 4 months she experienced rapid weight loss and anemia, but because of the stats; her age and no family history, she was not on the radar for cancer screening. Well intended professionals misdiagnosed her with spleen deficiency, internal hemorrhoids, and IBS. Given the amount of time that has past, the cancer grew and in January 2018 bleeding from the tumor prompted an emergency visit to the Canmore hospital. Transferred to the city and many tests later, Tracy was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer—life as we knew it was completely changed.
A run of proper tests; colonoscopy, ultrasound, MRI, and CT scan confirmed the large mass in her rectum, in addition to two spots in her lungs. One final PET scan is booked to get the final results from her oncologist as to chemo protocol and when it will start. Their goal is to shrink the primary tumor enough in three months of chemo to surgically remove the rectal mass, also hopes that the chemo will eliminate the lung spots as they are not in an operable position. It is ultimately up to Tracy and the team of professionals to help her heal, though as her support team, I feel it is also important to use all the knowledge and resources we have to help her on this journey and path to recovery. Inevitably, this comes at a cost. At times, the sense of helplessness I feel is overwhelming, so I have found something I can do to help my sister, creating this fundraiser and reaching out to all of you.
My hope is that this fundraiser will help cover the costs for Tracy’s urgently needed alternative treatments (to help boost up her already compromised body in preparation for chemo), in addition to general expenses so that she can put her focus on her health and well being.
Donations will go towards her Vitamins C IV’s, acupuncture, nutrition, hyperthermic treatments, organic food, supplements, and monthly living expenses since she is not able to work at this time. Tracy and I have discussed the logistics of the campaign and she has agreed that I will be accepting the donations on her behalf. This will allow her to focus solely on getting well and not worry about any financial stressors.
I love my sister immensely. It’s hard to see her in pain, although she never complains and is staying very positive. I want to spend many many more years with her reminiscing about our childhood, celebrating life together and continuing to enjoy seeing her as an amazing auntie to my kids. Please feel free to share this campaign as well. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated to help our family and Tracy on this road to wellness.
