I write this today not only on behalf of a wonderful family who are near and dear to my heart, but more specifically, a wonderful man.Tom Malone was diagnosed with prostate cancer with bone and lymph node involvement in 2006, given a grim prognosis of only 48 months to live, Tom beat the odds and responded extremely well to non invasive oral treatment. Deemed a medical miracle for surpassing the medications expected longevity, he was even published in Men’s Health medical journals.
It seemed like Tom had time on his side, until August of 2019 when his health began to deteriorate. Up until this point Tom has been working for the USPS for the last 35 years, and has taken pride in maintaining a 6 day work week to provide for his family. But unfortunately due to the cancer causing changes in his blood he was forced to go on medical leave.
Tom has always been someone that I’ve known to be in good spirits whenever I see him. Always making time to chat with his loving wife Cathy, and inquire about his children, Tracey, Melanie, Brian, Amy, and Maureen’s days. A man with plenty of interesting stories and important lessons to teach if you have the time to listen
There has been a running joke that Tom runs a home for wayward women, because so many of his children’s friends have taken refuge under his roof. A kindness that I have been fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of. I’ve been friends with the family for over 10 years and Tom has never treated me like anything less than a daughter which just shows what a kind and open hearted man he truly is.
I wanted to try my best to explain what an amazing person Tom is because he is now at a stage in his sickness where he needs help. Tom will be starting chemotherapy and even with insurance covering a majority of it, it will still cost over a thousand dollars per treatment. I ask that if you have anything to spare you consider donating to help Tom continue his fight so that he may continue to watch his children flourish, and his 11 grandchildren shine.
Tom has worked hard and countless hours to provide for his family and they would like to do the same for him in his time of need. As a man of god, we leave this truly in His hands, but if you can’t share a donation, please consider a prayer in Tom’s name.
