Calling in community support for the journey ahead as I recover from severe COVID.
After 3 weeks in hospital, including 1.5 weeks in Intensive Care, I am now home again surrounded by family and beginning the journey of independent recovery with Jason, my partner, as my primary carer.
Due to the degree of intensity that COVID dealt me, where I was literally fighting for my life , coming to the edge of life and death, I am now navigating 'Long COVID', with the projection of 3-6 months recovery time before being able to reintegrate into the community and share myself through my work.
I am still very much bed based, recovering from pneumonia, with the cumulative challenge that my body faced whilst in hospital struggling to breathe resulting in me developing pulmonary embolism (blood clots) on my lungs, along with tachycardia, (rapid heart rate), which sees me out of breath walking a few metres. My lungs are still compromised, and all of these elements means that I am unable to do much activity at all. Both of these conditions are slow and gradual in their repair, so there is a long chapter of incremental improvement ahead of me.
On top of this I will need to recover from de-conditioning of the body due to prolonged bed rest, and address the underlying health issue that made me so susceptible to COVID creating a critical health crisis.
This virus that hit my family, came at a time where we have just passed through a big healing journey as Jason navigated acute pain and very limited ability due to a complex shoulder injury, Frozen shoulder and a supraspinatus tear. Both of these injuries meant that he was unable to work for 4 months, with me being the sole income earner. Jason is still rehabilitating from his injury and will return to part time work and slowly build as his capacity does.
Because of this we have no savings to buffer the financial challenge we now face with a 3-6 month recovery projection ahead.
This is why I am reaching out for community support.
I am reaching out for support so that myself and my family are able to meet our every day basic financial needs over this period of healing.
The money that we are generously offered will assist with me being able to access healing therapies and supplements that are necessary for recovery and renewal. Additionally, the funds raised will go toward our utility bills, (electricity, phone, gas) and food expenses.
The love and care, the well wishes and prayers, the flowers and soup drops, the packages delivered in hospital and all the unseen support that myself and my family have thus received are so treasured and appreciated. I believe it helped me pull through from a terrifying place with all the love that was surrounding me!
It is huge for me to ask for support in this way, but the truth is, I don't know how we will manage what is ahead without financial help. Thank you to all our friends who have encouraged me to create this go fund me campaign. May this inspire others to feel safe to ask for help in times of genuine crisis, creating a culture of community support and care.
I hope and pray that I will be able offer this kind of support to others in need in the future.
Thank you to every one who is able to chip in to assist in this journey ahead.
I am envisaging greater health, full recovery, vitality and love for life, eventually, with a lot of patience, tolerance, acceptance, will power, and hard work ahead.
With so much love to you all
