Some of the hardest moments in rescue don't happen in the field.
They happen in the exam room.
They're the moments when a veterinarian gently explains that a pet needs emergency surgery, specialized treatment, or advanced diagnostics. The moments when we look into the eyes of an animal who has already endured so much and know that healing is possible—but only if we can provide the care they need.
Lately, those moments have become far more common.
In just the first half of 2026, HARTT has spent more than $96,000 on veterinary care. That staggering number reflects not only the rising cost of veterinary medicine, but also the increasing number of injured, seriously ill, and medically complex animals coming through our doors.
Every one of them is someone's heartbreak. Every one of them deserves relief from pain, the chance to heal, and the opportunity to experience the love and comfort they may have never known.
That's why we've created the HARTT Critical Care Fund.
This fund exists for the animals whose needs go beyond routine care—the ones who need surgery, specialized diagnostics, hospitalization, or lifesaving treatment. It allows us to make decisions based on what's best for the animal, not what's left in the budget.
When a frightened puppy is hit by a car. When a neglected dog needs emergency surgery. When a stray cat arrives fighting for its life. We never want the question to be, "Can we afford to help?" We want the answer to always be, "We're ready."
If you're able, we hope you'll consider making a gift to the HARTT Critical Care Fund. Every contribution, no matter the amount, becomes part of a promise: that when an animal needs us most, they won't have to face it alone.
Thank you for believing, alongside us, that every life is worth fighting for. ❤️
