Hi! I'm helping some Northern Arapaho friends raise money to host monthly community horseback Healing Rides. These rides started in 2019 to help provide healing to the community on the Wind River Reservation, with themes of suicide prevention, Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women/People, and honoring veterans.
Healing Rides exist to reconnect the two-leggeds with the four-legged horse nation, restoring and honoring thousands of years of kinship. Many people in the community are blessed by these rides: adults and children, and even toddlers go on the healing rides, often 25 people per ride.
Every month, rides cost about $1000 to put on, and right now they are mostly funded by private Arapaho individuals under financial strain. So let's help make it easy for these Healing Rides to happen monthly, without financial stress. There are horses to care for, hay costs, fuel for the trailers, and snacks for the ride.
Horses are healing. Community is healing. This is a beautiful way to take care of community and help pass down traditional knowledge and healing to future generations. This kind of community healing and ancestral wisdom is so important, and also really challenging to fund in a colonized economy.
Please chip in what you can, and join a ride if you're in the area!
