On September 4th, 2017, Hunter asked his Mom to take him to the bathroom. While using the bathroom, Katie noticed that he was peeing blood. Katie took him to his PCP and while preforming an exam, the Dr. felt a "growth" on his kidney. Hunter was rushed to a local hospital, where a CT scan determined the tumor. On September 7th, Hunter was prepped and ready for surgery. While in surgery, the surgeon had to remove his bowels for the time being to get to the kidney and tumor. They successfully got his kidney and the tumor that weighed almost 1 pound. While in there, they noticed that the lymph nodes around his kidney looked inflamed, so they went ahead and got those out, too. Thankfully, the 5 lymph nodes taken out were benign.
On September 12th, Hunters results came back and he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer. The Oncologist explained to Katie & Jason that Hunter would need to go through an aggressive chemo treatment (28 weeks worth/7 months) and radiation. Radiation would be for a week at a time and it would be given daily for that week. Since Hunter is only 3, they have to sedate him each day to preform the radiation. Katie & Jason were also told that for the next 3 years, Hunter would constantly have blood work, CT scans, doctors appointments, etc. Anytime he gets a fever over 100.4, he will have to be admitted to the hospital for at least 48 hours. With those 3 years comes a lot of financial burdens. With an out of pocket of 10k a year, all the medications he has to take, both parents on FMLA and currently not getting paid, being in the process of moving and trying to take care of their other child, Caroline who just turned one; they have too much on their plate. No parent should ever have to worry about medical bills while they're watching their child fight through chemo. This is why we've made this page. Our family is surrounded with so many caring and compassionate people that have asked to help. If you are not able to donate, we understand, but please know that every donation big or small, will truly be a blessing. Prayers are very important, too! This family feels them and they are relying on them. Hunter is already experiencing many symptoms from chemo and its truly heartbreaking to watch.
We've started a facebook page called Healing Hunter, which we will continue to post weekly updates. On behalf of Hunter's family, we would like to thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and love through this rough time. We are amazed by the support this family is receiving!
