"It was a beautiful Friday afternoon and I was on my 99 Harley Davidson Dyna that I love like family heading east on Folsom street to work on the Embarcadero. I have a green light so I continue my speed of around 30 mph through the intersection where a car was in the wrong lane to turn left but did so illegally, therein t-boning me. I flew over the car and onto the pavement. It was that split second where there was nothing I could do and I knew something was very wrong. Immediately upon looking at my leg I began to scream as my foot was dangling mostly to the left and various bones were protruding from my ankle bone. Everything was dislocated and warped. It wasn't my foot anymore. I received emergency surgery to set the foot back where it should be. Just to keep it attached. In the 20
Years of orthopedic surgery my doctor told me my foot was the worst case he had ever seen. All the bones in my midfoot were shattered. Compound ankle fractures, multiple and severe lacerations. All my tendons and ligaments were shredded. My heel pad was destroyed. The doctors told me because I have such a severe injury there is a lot of not knowing until my foot demonstrates what wants to live. In around four months I may be able to start putting a little pressure on my foot. But it's going to be a long road of surgeries and bed-rest until then."
Hillarys experience is one of the worst case scenarios for anyone who rides anything with two wheels, and she is lucky to be alive! WE are lucky she is still here with us!!!! I hope you can show this badass some serious love and contribute in any way you are able. Sharing is caring too my loves!
I will be posting links to fundraising events in San Francisco and Oakland as they come to fruition, so please stay tuned and don't hesitate to give a shout out on here!
(Hillary Lyman receives all funds directly as well as notifications on all donations.)
And last but not least, a quote Hillary chose to remind us all that our inner strength matters, and will heal the gnarlist of broken bones like "Hamburger Foot" as she calls it!
