Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.
For those of you who know Heidi McClaskey, this scripture has been one that defines her life as she whole heartedly pursues Jesus and a life of holiness. Through her greatest hardships and heartaches, she has rested in this verse knowing that God is a redeemer and restorer and that no pain we go through is in vain.
Recently, an unexpected hardship came when Heidi was diagnosed with stage four metastatic signet ring cell adenocarcinoma: a rare form of cancer that is incredibly hard to detect. By God’s grace due to an unrelated surgery, the cancer was found and a new journey began. Soon came many doctor's appointments that included poking and prodding and an overwhelming amount of information. Along with that new information came a deeper reality of her diagnosis. Her doctors told her that even with the best efforts of conventional medicine she had 24 months to live. Without treatment they gave her 2-3 months. After much, research, thought, and most importantly prayer it seemed at this time conventional medicine wasn’t the right answer. Heidi loves life and loves people and wants to have the best quality of life she can no matter what the amount of time. Chemo often makes you sick and puts chemicals in your body. With the goal of being as healthy as possible, it seems that a more holistic approach to care is the best option, in hopes that she will have more quality time to spend with her family and loved ones without the side effects of chemo. Through New Hope Unlimited, LLC (Holistic Cancer Treatment Center) she will receive Proprietary Cancer Antibody/Antigen Therapy, Immunotherapy, and many other forms of treatment with the goal of detoxing cancer completely from her body starting in early August.
However, Heidi is so much more than someone who has cancer. First and foremost, she is a deep lover of Jesus. Her life is a beautiful example of the redeeming power and love of God. As I’ve seen her pursue Jesus with her whole heart, I’ve seen her praise God and honor Him in every circumstance. And she truly has been a beacon of the hope of Christ for her family and community. Next to her unwavering faith and love for God is her love for her family. She and her wonderful husband Todd have enjoyed three wonderful years of marriage. Together they share two wonderful boys; Jake and Josh, and three girls; Kim, Trinity and Sunshine. They are her life. In addition to her own children Heidi has become a mom and safe place to many in our community; offering mentorship and unconditional love.
Heidi has also been a voice of encouragement and hope to the community. Heidi serves alongside her husband on the leadership team of Celebrate Recovery at the Heights Church. From being a warm and welcoming face, to sharing her testimony online for hundreds to see, all for the cause of Christ. She has modeled what it truly looks like to live a life set apart for Christ, not only by word, but action. I know she has made a tremendous difference in my life and the lives of so many people around her. Heidi gave me the greatest gift anyone could; she taught me to love Jesus more. And I’m sure even if you just had one interaction with her, she would inspire you to do the same.
Heidi has always taken care of other people, but now it's my hope that as a community we can help take care of her. With unexpected illness comes unexpected financial burdens. The treatment that is best for Heidi at this time is unfortunately not covered by insurance and has to be paid out of pocket. The estimated cost of treatment is over 30,000 dollars not including air fare, and the funds needed to provide for her family while she is gone, and pay their monthly bills while she is out state focusing on her health. So, I am humbly asking for help and partnership on her behalf, that we might be able to give back to someone who has given so freely to others. First, I ask for your prayers that you would join in praying for a miracle over Heidi’s health. I also ask that you might consider coming alongside her financially by donating to provide the treatment and support she needs to fight cancer. May God bless and keep you all. May God bless and keep each one of you.
