Kai's Kind Heart

Donation protected
Keli'ikai Aipia, we all know him as Kai.  His PARENTS call him SON.  The KIDS call him MR. or COACH.  His SIBLINGS and many of his FRIENDS call him BROTHER.  Others call him UNKO KAI, but I call him MY LOVE!
September 17-26, 2020 was a scary time for us.  On the 17th, Kai was taken to Cape Fear Valley ER in Hoke County due to pains in his sternum. He was given an EKG and Chest X-ray.  A blockage and two (2) aneurysms were found in his chest.  He was transported to Cape Fear Valley in Fayetteville, the blockage was cleared, but he remained for observations.  24 hours had passed without incident and then everything went down hill.
Kai spoke on the phone to a few people the following day.  After his last call, he complained of having a headache and began to convulse as if he was having a seizure.  Within seconds, the room filled with doctors and nurses before I was escorted out.
In the span of 2 days @ CFV, Kai had 3-4 heart attacks and flatlined for 2 minutes.  He also contracted pneumonia in both lungs and a blood infection.  The family was called multiple times with word that he may not make it.  His father made the decision to transfer him to Chapel Hill.
Kai was intubated and placed in ICU in Chapel Hill.  He remained intubated for over a week, but stabilized and thankfully woke up.  He was discharged and sent home on September 30.
Being hospitalized has prevented Kai from going back to work.  He works in the school system as a middle school social worker and high school football coach.  He also works a part time job at The Home Depot on weekends.  He was placed on Medical Leave Without Pay  due to not enough time employed at either job.  He must pay health insurance himself since he is on LOA no pay .  He will be out of work until April or after Cardiac Rehab in May.
The cause of all this is a rare heart disease that enlarges the veins on the left side of the heart.  A stint could not be inserted due to the veins abnormally large size.  As for now, there is no explanation for the enlarged veins.  He did not have high cholesterol, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
If you know Kai, you know he would rather struggle and figure a way to make it work before he would ask for help.  He would want to get a job while he's recovering.  I was shocked when he agreed to let us do a GoFundMe page for him.  Many of us have seen him give with the kindness of his heart.  He would rather give than receive.  He loves everyone he meets and I haven't met anyone that has anything bad to say about him.  He has a passion for what he does and strives to do his best.  ALWAYS SPREADING ALOHA!
ALL funds donated will go towards Kai's rent, utilities, doctor visits, medical bills, medications, health insurance, and cardiac rehab.
Thank you everyone.

In the words of Kai himself,

I LOVE YOU ALL!
