In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the people of Jamaica have been left devastated. St. Elizabeth, in particular, is among the worst-affected parishes. Homes have been flattened, farms destroyed, and entire livelihoods swept away overnight.

My family in St.Elizabeth and Westmoreland have lost their homes and have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Families like mine who work tirelessly to provide for themselves now face the unimaginable reality of losing everything they own. The storm not only destroyed houses and possessions, but also shattered the sense of safety and stability.

My heart is heavy witnessing the impact Hurricane Melissa has had on the Caribbean.

As a qualified Coach and Mentor with a BSc in Counselling and Mental Health and specialisation in Crisis Intervention and Emotional Resilience I feel I must offer support in a way that lies within my strengths. Alongside Lean On Me, I will be travelling from Leeds to Jamaica to offer free trauma counselling, emotional support sessions, and resilience workshops to those most affected. I acknowledge many survivors, including children, the elderly, and single parents, are struggling with grief, fear, anxiety, and hopelessness. My goal is to provide a sustainable project and safe space for them to process what they’ve experienced and begin to rebuild community spirit and emotional strength.

Workshops and cookouts will primarily take place in the parishes of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland from December to January.

I feel it is important to mention that I bought my ticket to Jamaica prior to the Hurricane; I am offering my services free of charge and will account for my own expenses.

All donations will go directly towards those affected in the community of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland, to provide essentials like food, water and shelter.

Christmas and New Year’s Day will be significantly hard for those affected. The smallest donation means more than you can imagine. If you’re unable to give, please consider sharing this campaign.

Jamaica is a resilient nation, and my family’s spirit remains strong — but they can’t do this alone. Together, we can help them find hope and stability.
