It is with a heavy heart that we share this medical update about our mother, Gloria Herbozo. She became ill unexpectedly in early March and is now hospitalized for the third time this month due to a significant medical condition. Unfortunately, she has experienced several medical setbacks that have made it challenging for her to recover. Our family is rallying around her, providing all the support and love we can collectively muster. Sylvia has been off work on family medical leave since March 6th to help with her care.
Our initial hope was to bring our mother back home to be with her family in a loving, familiar environment. However, it’s become clear that this won’t be possible yet because of the level of care she needs. This has been a heart-wrenching decision for us because we prefer to care for her at home. As you might imagine, having our mother in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic adds an extra layer of worry to an already stressful situation.
While we are blessed in many ways, our financial means will not stretch to the extent that our mother’s care will require. So, with great humility, we are reaching out to our community of friends and family for any support that you are able to offer. We will forever be indebted to you for any contribution you can make to help us provide our mother with the best medical care possible.
For those of you who don’t know her personally, our mother is an amazing, strong woman who is loved by many. Her journey from Lima, Peru to Miami, FL was characterized by hard work, faith, compassion, and resilience as she and our father created a beautiful life for our family. She is also known as a fabulous cook with her ceviche and black beans and rice being favorites among our friends. As a certified medical assistant, she dedicated over 30 years to provide home care for elderly patients. Caring for seniors is a vocation for her and a labor of love. It was not surprising that she developed close relationships with her patients and their families, who were always appreciative to have her as their caretaker.
As a family, we are sustained by our strong faith and belief in miracles. We know the power of the collective to come together so with that said, we are requesting that you keep our Mom in your prayers and/or thoughts and see her smiling, strong, and completely healthy. We’ve experienced a few miracles with her health which continue to give us hope that she will make a full recovery with the proper medical care.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
With gratitude,
Sylvia and Beverly
