Hi, my name is Thomas Dray I have had to put my pride and embarrassment behind me to ask for help for my beautiful wife of almost 30 years and family.
In February she was sick and not feeling well, she tried to sleep in bed but couldn't so she got up and went to watch tv in the living room so I could sleep. She came back to bed around 7.30 to 8am and I woke up and told her I will get up with our 3 fur babies and our 2 adult kids. It was around noon and I made lunch and thought maybe I should ask her if she would like some lunch but thought about it and said she just went to bed and asleep only 4 hours ago so I let her sleep. I cleaned up around the house let the dogs out and started to think about what to fix for dinner then thought about her and said I don't think she has been up to even go to the restroom. So I went to wake up and ask if she might want something to eat. I walked into the bedroom and started to wake her softly so not to scare her but nothing I got louder and started to shake her, nothing still, the boys came downstairs to see why i was yelling and they to tried to wake their mom, still nothing. Our youngest then called 911 for an ambulance for the hospital. The EMTs got there and she woke up enough to stumble and fall before they got her on the gurney. They got her to the hospital er and there the Doctors and nurses tried to get her awake and they ended up sticking her almost 30 times to get blood and IVs started but couldn't get any vein to hold. After bout 4 hours and 1 realy great lab tech they got her blood and IVs started all the while I was trying not to loose it completely by the way they were leaving her with all the blood and veins stuck so much and paperwork. She finally got into ICU from the er after 8 long hours. She was still out and hadn't woke up except the little bit at home just to fall and hurt n bruise herself. She was in ICU for a week and still not awake. I had to make the decision to let our 3 boys to come see her while she was still not awake fearing that she may never wake up. The 3 came back out of her room crying both mad and sad wanting to know all the questions that I had no answer to. She had so many wires tubes and machines hooked up to her was so unreal. Because we both have said don't let the other stay on life support. Finally after bout 8 or 9 days she started waking up. I was jumping for joy calling the boys and everyone. But, when she woke she didn't know me for a few hours she didn't know the boys or that she had kids or even her grandkids. It took some time for her to recall the kids. After 3 weeks in ICU they moved her down the hall in a room of her own but still in ICU. They got me a couch because I never left her side the entire time except for 1 day to go home and shower. She still couldn't remember everything. DRs and nurses all came in and asked questions like name where was she at whos president and she could get some right but not all. The worst thing I could think of didn't come close to what I experienced in the 3 weeks as she tried and tried to remember her life. Her brain was making up memories that never happened and when I had to tell her NO baby it never happened, the look on her beautiful face was of a 5 or 6 yr old trying to understand what I was telling her. It got to me so bad one night I got up and told her I needed to get a snack. I found a bathroom closed the door and uncontrollably cried for 30 mins. YES, I AM CRYING ATM EVEN THOUGH IT WAS MONTHS AGO. She will kill me for this but not only did her memory leave her but she didn't know how to use the bathroom and the very great and wonderful nurses and techs all came to help her no matter how many times to help her and clean her up and the mess. She has had to go through physical therapy to learn how to walk again by using wheelchair and walkers. They sent her to a rehabilitation hospital and she was there for a month and a half as they worked to help her use the wheelchair and a walker while there they where helping her to the bathroom trying to graduate her from a potty chair to the toilet. she was with a nurse tech and using her walker but as she went through the door her walker got caught on the threshold and she fell and fell hard and hit her head on the toilet and chair and her legs and back hit the floor and wall. They sent her back to the hospital er for xrays and scans. she had 2 big huge nots on her head for almost a week and a half. she had a concussion. while she was getting better at getting around using the wheelchair I had to think how she was going to get in and out of the house. So with myself the boys and my brother we built a ramp with 2 small landings in a U shape so it wouldn't be too steep to roll her in and out. Its been almost 3 months with her home she still has memory loss and still has to use a walker to get around. Before all this her thyroid didn't work so she was on meds for it after coming home the thyroid is working but now it is attacking her body she now has graves disease and the hoshemoto, sorry spelling, disease she has all the symptoms of both. This woman, before this was so freaking strong and worked her butt off as doing alot of times 16 18 and 2 days straight as a manager for gas stations. She is the heart and sole of our family and was always the strength. I am on full disibity, she now has to try for hers. She hates it and she pushes herself so she can go back to work but all her doctors say no they say she wont be able to work again. She had just bought her for her very first time a new 2019 car but we had to let it go back couldn't afford it now. We are behind on our house now and trying to keep it and to keep it up. bills are pilling up like crazy. she had work hard to get where she was at working as manager of gas stations and over 45k a year to nothing for the last 11 yrs. So anything can and will help. If you can't donate thats fine too by all means we know its hard and been hard since the covid so if you can just help get this out to other people. I AM SORRY FOR THE LONG READ IF YOU STAYED AND READ IT ALL. THANK YOU VERY SO MUCH.
Oh and she didn't have covid. They said a very very bad UTI that her kidneys stopped working and kept all her meds she was on in her body so it was like over dose to her body. they said they figure her kidneys stopped working for about 4 days prior.
