Medical Treatment for Tyler Blount
Donation protected
We are asking for your help, and we are asking for your prayers for our son, Tyler Blount.
Tyler’s ongoing medical challenges have led us to make the decision to seek treatment at Keystone Health Center in Columbia, TN to pursue healing for his various debilitating chronic illnesses. We need your prayers, and we are also asking for your financial contributions.
Where We’ve Been
Many of our friends and family have followed Tyler’s story since his health problems began nearly twelve years ago when he was nine years old. We watched this healthy, brilliant boy turn into a kid with special needs overnight, and he was diagnosed with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep) in 2013, an autoimmune disease that affects the brain.
In the decade since, Tyler has experienced an ebb and flow of bad times followed by more optimistic times and back again. Yet even when times seemed better, Tyler has never felt “well” in twelve years.
In addition to PANDAS, the subsequent years brought with them struggles with daily migraines, insomnia, worsening asthma, IBS, and an acute colitis episode that landed him in the hospital for a week last spring. After that hospitalization, Tyler never got back to himself. For the last year, he has been so drained of energy that it is an effort to walk the length of the house. Last August, Tyler was diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), which means his body is unable to regulate his heart rate and blood pressure as it should.
Where We Are Now
When we asked Tyler’s cardiologist a couple months ago what a realistic prognosis for was for Tyler to recover from POTS, his best hope was that we might find a medicine that over the course of the next year would help Tyler feel “a little bit better.”
Tyler is currently being seen regularly by 5 specialists in addition to his primary care doctor—a psychiatrist, gastroenterologist, neurologist, cardiologist, and an allergist and immunologist (and they are all exceptional doctors). He is on enough prescription medication that our entire pharmacy staff knows us by name, and it takes me over 30 minutes every weekend to fill Tyler’s pill box for the week. The quantity of prescription meds he is on is itself making Tyler sick, yet we’ve already eliminated as much as we possibly can.
In other words, we are doing everything we can with traditional medicine, and Tyler’s health is continuing to decline in front of our eyes. His energy is worse. His daily migraines are worse. His mental health is worse. His tics are worse. His sinuses are worse. His stomach is worse. His sleep is worse. His life is worse.
We Are Asking for Your Help and Prayers
We have made a thoughtful, prayerful, and outside-the-box decision to take Tyler to a natural medicine center for two weeks of treatment for his illnesses. Beginning April 1st, we will spend two weeks at Keystone Health Center in Columbia, TN, which specializes in treatment for people with chronic illnesses that are not responding to traditional medicine, including POTS and PANDAS. Tyler’s longest-standing doctor who knows Tyler’s health journey best is highly encouraging of our decision to go to Biologix. He has seen patients like Tyler have life-changing benefits with this type of functional medicine treatment.
The two-week treatment at Keystone costs $12,500 and is not covered by insurance. After you add in airfare for 3 of us, housing, rental car, and the ongoing supplements and therapies that the doctors recommend we go home with, this could easily cost us over $20,000.
We are asking that you pray for Tyler’s healing. And if you are able, we are asking that you donate to help us cover this expense.
We believe that God will heal Tyler, and we believe in coupling prayer with seeking medical treatment. All healing comes from God. We don’t know if Tyler’s healing will be now, in the future, or in eternity; but we also know that if we continue to do what we have been doing for Tyler, we can expect to continue to get the same unacceptable results.
God has too many good things ahead for Tyler, too many prophetic promises we’ve yet to see fulfilled, for us to not try something new. This is a risk: we may go to Keystone and it doesn’t really actually help him. But we know if we do nothing, he’s already not getting any better. It can’t make anything worse, and it might be the vehicle God is using to move Tyler into a season of healing for the first time in a decade.
How You Can Pray
Please be praying for these things:
- Tyler’s full healing in his body. Healing from POTS, PANDAS, migraines, IBS, asthma, allergies, and insomnia. Pray that he would have a body that allows him the options to do things other young men his age do, like work a job, hang out with friends, drive too fast, and annoy his parents by staying out too late.
- The finances to fully cover treatment at Biologix center and related expenses.
- That Tyler, Brian, and Jeanine all sense God’s peace and presence and direction while we are at Keystone. That we know the right times to say yes and say no and when to rest and when to push through.
- For our other four kids / young adults at home, and Jeanine’s parents who are rescheduling a vacation to be with them for two weeks while we are in Tennessee.
How You Can Give
We have set up a GoFundMe account for Tyler’s treatment. You can give any amount in any of the following ways:
- GoFundMe (3% service charge is withdrawn from your donation by GoFundMe)
- Checks can be made to Tyler Blount and mailed to 7229 Summit Dr., Oklahoma City, OK 73162
- If you would like to give via another electronic method or app to avoid the 3% service charge, we can provide you that info if you reach out to us personally on Facebook / Messenger.
We will be updating the GoFundMe account regularly with any donations made from any other giving streams so that the GoFundMe total is accurate. All funds are deposited into a checking account set up in Tyler’s name and restricted to expenses related to the Biologix treatment.
How to Stay Updated
We will be posting regular updates and prayer requests about Tyler’s treatment in the following ways:
- GoFundMe page will show all important updates
- Facebook – Brian and Jeanine will both update their Facebook pages regularly.
We Would Love to Hear from You!
We’d love to hear whatever encouragement you have to offer Tyler on this journey. Please feel free to send us messages through Facebook / Messenger or our personal contact info if you already have it.
Many thanks,
The Blount Family
