Hello,
We are a group of neighbors and friends raising money for Lisa Sun's healing journey through Lyme disease. View her history in this video: https://youtu.be/8uGvgE1AgbU
Lisa is a bright light in all the communities she’s connected to. She’s the person who organizes the gathering and brings people together. She’s the one who lights up the room and makes everyone feel at home. She sees where the gap is, and with curiosity and grace, weaves a gorgeous tapestry to fill the gap. She makes even the most unwelcome feel welcome. Lisa grows gardens, listens to trees, and tends plants and people with care, compassion, skill, and kindness. She is a gift to any community she steps into.
And for the last 30 years, Lisa has been doing it all while navigating the devastating impact of Lyme disease. She’s worked hard to care for herself, her family, and her community, and now, due to exposure to black mold in her home, she’s experiencing a severe recurrence of the illness and is in need of extensive medical treatment.
Lisa had to immediately move out of the home that was causing the recurrence and is now staying with neighbors while she seeks a new home. At this time, she is unable to work.
Beginning immediately Lisa will undergo medical treatment three times weekly (as she did 11 years ago). The cost for this medical treatment over for the next 3-4 months will be $5,100. Funds raised here will go directly to Lisa to help with medical costs and living expenses ($3,000) throughout her treatment.
Chronic illness is no fun. Lisa has borne this recurrence of Lyme disease with so much courage and grace. She is a bright, colorful, generous, delightful, fun-loving soul. Her presence in our lives is such a juicy blessing. Now it’s our turn to step up and return some of the light she has brought to us. Thank you for giving generously from your heart.
Lisa tells her own diagnosis and journey with Lyme disease below:
"Not long after my son turned 2 years old, I began experiencing strange medical challenges--muscle and joint pain, headaches, fatigue, and the odd sensation of “worms crawling across my legs.” I tried to continue with my life “as if” I was feeling ok…teaching full-time, parenting, and staying positive. I found making jewelry served as my ‘saving grace’ during my medical hardships because it provided a place where I could be creative and feel inner peace. Sixteen years later, after traveling overseas, I became extremely ill. I lost 20 lbs. and was barely able to walk. I was hospitalized for two months and ultimately diagnosed with Lyme disease.
My life changed dramatically and so did my jewelry making. I began treatment for Lyme disease, using both traditional Western medicine with antibiotics and Eastern medicine with homeopathy, herbs/supplements, and dietary changes. I was no longer able to work and my sole focus became healing Lyme disease. It’s been 11 years since I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and I continue to work on healing on a daily basis. The road has not been an easy one. I've had to take long breaks (years) off from my Etsy shop to heal more deeply. There have been many gifts along the way… the support of dear friends and making jewelry have kept me hopeful, passionate, and alive…rejoicing in the preciousness of life.
Designing and making jewelry has become my soul’s work."
