Healing for Julius

Saturday morning, May 23rd, Julius was rushed to Rocky River Atrium Medical Center after he became limp and unresponsive.  Julius was sent back immediately to get a CT scan which showed a brain bleed.  He was then incubated until he was able to be airlifted to Levine’s Children’s Hospital to their pediatric ICU unit.

At Levine’s, they’ve been able to drain the blood, and release some pressure from Julius’ head.  Another CT scan was done and we found that Julius has something called Arteriovenous malformation.  AVM is abnormal connection between arteries and veins, usually in the brain or spine.
This is usually present at birth. The arteries and veins in an arteriovenous malformation can rupture, causing bleeding into the brain or spinal cord.

We got him to the hospital with just enough time, and he’s sedated and doing well. He has been asked to move his eyes and limbs which he can do on command. Great sign!

An angiogram is scheduled for Tuesday(26th) with surgery following on Wednesday(27th).  He will likely be in the hospital for another week or so with possible rehab afterwards.

Julius has always been a super upbeat and positive kiddo.  He just celebrated his 7th birthday this month and we’d like to do something special for him.  If anyone would like to send Julius a card, it can be mailed to his older sisters shop address, where Julius likes to help pack orders and pour candles.
