If you are reading this, you probably already know that Chris McCoy is an awesome person with a heart of gold. Whether it is building a project, playing disc golf or making a giant fire to share with everyone while camping at a festival, Chris's fun and reassuring demeanor makes everything better.
CHRIS NEEDS OUR HELP!!
On the 17th of July, our beloved Chris was taken ill and rushed to hospital. His spleen was 5 times the normal size and bleeding. An emergency procedure was done to stop the bleeding. It was from there that Chris was DIAGNOSED with the very rare blood cancer for his age, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. It is believed that he has had for about 3 years so it has progressed from an easily treatable level to a level where it has mutated, leaving only aggressive chemotherapy and hopefully a stem cell transplant as treatment options. His spleen remains enlarged and he also has a clot on his lung.
Chris's financé Adrienne is with Chris daily non-stop only leaving for a few hours of part time accounting work and to shower in the mornings. Family and friends are working in tandem to maintain a constant healing vigil. Improvements have been slow but steady. Obviously a long hospital stay with ongoing treatments will amount to major bills long term. In the short term, suspension of work income will impact monthly bills like rent, utilities, and other home / living expenses. Funds will be used to both keep Chris afloat against monthly bills and to minimize the further harm caused by the financially crippling debt created by our medical system. Chris is an independent contractor and did not have health insurance at the time of hospital intake. He has since applied for medicaid but that has not been approved yet and we have no idea what will be covered. Neither Chris or Adrienne work jobs with paid time off.
We are looking for larger amount single donations where possible or monthly / semi-recurring donations as the only practical means to make a healthy financial impact. But of course, every penny counts and appreciated.
In addition to the funds raised, we will be looking for prizes and reward donations which we will use on a regular basis to incentivize contributions. For further information on providing prizes for incentives or other in-kind donations (like food, household items, unused or new gift cards etc.) please contact Miranda Joy, Robert Cohen, Iris Beaver, or Adrienne Andrews via the FB group made for Chris: http://www.facebook.com/groups/2327533517497468/
