Healing for a Healer: Nellie Davis Recovery Fund

Donation protected
A Life-changing event.
Hi, my name is Teresa Melendez and I am raising funds to support Nellie Davis on her post-auto accident road to recovery. On the early morning of January 21, 2023, Nellie was traveling on State Route 446 on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe's reservation to fly fish with relatives. Almost to her destination, she was t-boned while turning left at Blackhouse beach. The driver approaching from behind noticed Nellie's decline in speed but did not see her turn signal and instead of deaccelerating, she accelerated and began passing just as Nellie was turning left toward the lake. After impact, Nellie's airbags did not deploy, causing significant internal injuries and close-impact brain trauma. First responders weren't sure if she was going to survive the transport from Pyramid Lake to the emergency room in Reno. Thankfully the spirits protected her that day and continue to watch over her through recovery.

Who is Nellie Davis? Nellie Davis is an enrolled member of the Walker River Paiute Tribe, an established BIPOC Reno-small business owner (Outsiders Hair Studio and Sawabe Muhano, a traditional herbalism and bodywork center), and a single mother. Nellie has opened up her businesses, her home, and her heart to support and guide many many folks on their healing paths. Now she could use our help.

Healing for a healer. Like so many small business owners, Nellie does not have private health insurance and is reliant on Indian Health Services' limited support. This GoFundMe fundraising campaign is intended to organize relatives, friends, and kind yet-to-meet friends to help her on what will likely be a long wellness journey. Nellie has dedicated her personal life and her business to helping people in her circle find healing. Whether in ceremony or working with customers through both of her businesses, Nellie has dedicated herself to taking care of the community's wellness. Funds collected from this campaign are dedicated to paying for holistic wellness services such as chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage therapy, and energy work -- healing services to heal our healer friend.

Ways to support! Good news. There are many ways to contribute. Are you an awesome cook? Would you like to host a food sale (ie. An Indian taco, breakfast burrito, tamale sale)? Do you make goods or provide services? If so, you could host a raffle offering up a gift certificate(s) or product(s) you make or provide (ie. A beadwork/quillwork raffle). Are you a hostess with the mostest? You could host a fundraising party! You could have folks over for dinner, charge a per-plate fee, organize a silent auction, or run a raffle -- what fun! But, the simplest way to support Nellie on her road to recovery is to send her some prayers/good thoughts and donate funds directly to this GoFundMe campaign. You can also contact Nellie directly with a donation of direct services (ie. massage, energy work, etc.).

With appreciation,
Teresa Melendez
