Healing Eva: A Call for Hope and Help
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,
My name is Simon, and today I reach out with a call for support with a cause very close to my heart – my incredible partner, Eva Williamson. Eva is an artist and teacher of 15 years, a beacon of joy, and the strongest person I know. But earlier this year, our lives took a devastatingly unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer generally termed Unclassified Spindle Cell Sarcoma, with her specific diagnosis affecting less than 0.0017% of the global population annually.
The Journey So Far:
It feels like yesterday and also 10 years since we were living our normal life when suddenly, everything changed. Since June (2023), Eva has been through two major surgeries and has just completed the rigors of 6 weeks of extremely painful radiation therapy. Due to the high risks involved with these procedures, we've also taken a big step for our future – fertility preservation – a step filled with hope but shadowed deeply by high costs, as not one cent of it is covered by insurance.
Our days have been a blur of hospital visits and long journeys, shuttling between Harlingen and Houston almost every week. Now, we are temporarily based in Houston for Eva's radiation treatment and first leg of a long radiation recovery, including physical therapy to help regain normal daily functions. It's a tough journey, but we're facing it together, head-on. On top of that, Eva will need to be closely monitored for the next few years, which will be filled with appointments and expensive scans every 3 months to ensure the cancer does not come back or metastasize to other areas of the body; something that is very common with this type of cancer.
The Emotional Rollercoaster and Financial Mountain:
This journey has been the toughest thing either of us have ever had to deal with, not just physically for Eva, but emotionally for us both. And then there's the financial side of things – the bills will keep coming in. Even with insurance, the cost of treatments, staying away from home, and the upcoming quarterly scans (which are crucial but very expensive with high out of pocket costs) have put a huge strain on our finances now, and in the near future.
So, here we are, reaching out for a helping hand. Your support would mean the world to us. It’s not just about the financial aid; it’s about feeling like we’re not alone in this fight. Almost the entirety of this journey has been far away from all our family and friends, which has been difficult to deal with when it feels like you're fighting against such a strong force of uncertainty. Every single donation will help us cover medical bills, travel expenses, future treatments, and recovery, allowing us to focus on what truly matters – getting Eva back to full health.
With Gratitude and Hope in Our Hearts:
We want to express our deepest gratitude for every bit of support we’ve received so far. You’ve been our rock in these turbulent times. Your support through this GoFundMe would extend that circle of love and care, giving us strength, hope, and some certainty in the road ahead.
Thank you for taking a moment to be a part of our journey. Your kindness and generosity in helping us through this challenging time is something we will always remember and be grateful for.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
