Help Me Repay the Costs of Life-Changing Surgery & a Final Farewell

I’m raising £2,574 to fully repay the costs of my reconstructive surgery and a flight I booked in hopes of seeing my terminally ill grandmother before she passed. Your support will help me heal physically, emotionally, and financially, allowing me to move forward without the weight of debt on my shoulders.

A Journey of Healing with Unexpected Challenges

At the age of 6, I was subjected to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)—a traumatic violation that left lasting scars. After almost two decades of struggling with the consequences of Type 3 FGM, I finally underwent reconstructive surgery (CRS) to restore what was taken from me. This procedure was essential for my healing, but it came at a cost.

Following surgery, I was told that a full recovery would take 8-12 weeks, with a return to work possible after 4 weeks. However, I experienced complications that led to hospitalisation, setting my healing back by several weeks. Where I had planned to return to work in January, I have only just been able to resume working and am still on leave on medical grounds.

While my medical teams in Kenya and the UK have urged me to prioritise my recovery, the financial burden of this surgery weighs heavily on me. I took a loan from a sister to make this surgery possible, as I did not have the funds at the time. She gave me the loan provided I was able to repay her by the end of March. I didn’t foresee anything that happened after the surgery so I gave her my word that I would be able to pay her back in time.

During this difficult period, I also received the devastating news that my grandmother had been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. I had hopes to to go see her (she lived back home), but as Allah سبحانه وتعالى willed, she passed away before I could see her. Though I never got to say goodbye, I’m grateful I tried.

Now, I need help repaying the loan I took for my surgery and the credit card debt from my flight.
