I'm organizing this GoFundMe on behalf of Houndful Hearts to raise funds to help Barbie the Basset Hound heal and shine bright once more.

Meet Barbie—a gentle, resilient basset hound who’s finally been given a second chance. Rescued by Houndful Hearts, Barbie is now safe, but her body carries the pain of years spent without proper care. She needs urgent medical support to help her feel comfortable, healthy, and loved.

Her Story

Barbie is just 5 years old and has spent her life being used for profit, bred repeatedly with little regard for her health or well-being in the care of an unethical breeder. When she came to us, her condition broke our hearts:

    •    Her mouth is severely infected, and she needs major dental work just to eat without pain.

    •    Years of overbreeding have left her with stretched, sagging mammary tissue—she needs to have a surgery to remove her mammary glands (10-12) and then a second surgery for extra skin removal to relieve the strain and discomfort.

    •    A long-untreated yeast infection has caused painful, inflamed skin, bald spots, and constant itching.

Despite it all, Barbie is still sweet, still hopeful, and still trying to wag that little tail.

What Barbie Needs

To get Barbie on the path to healing, she’ll need:

    •    Extensive dental surgery to remove rotten teeth and clear infection

    •   Mammary and skin removal surgeries to ease her movement and reduce risk of future health issues

    •    Ongoing skin treatments, medicated baths, and veterinary care to manage the yeast infection

    •    Bloodwork, medications, and a special diet to support her recovery

A Sister’s Legacy

Barbie is the sister of Houndful Hearts’ beautiful girl Kumora. Kumora was adored, cherished, and lived her very best life, surrounded by love every day. We want that for Barbie too.

Kumora’s legacy now lights the way for her sister to find healing and happiness. Barbie deserves to feel what it means to be safe, healthy, and loved.

We are setting a fundraising goal of $10,000 to ensure Barbie receives not only the urgent medical attention she requires, costs however could reach $30,000 for both the oral and mammary surgeries and the long-term care and rehabilitation she needs to thrive. This amount will help cover:

    •    Medications and specialized treatments

    •    Travel to specialist appointments if necessary

    •    Skin care, and recovery supplies
