Hello guys, I wanted to share some news that occurred Last Wednesday. And it’s a dousy. A dog fight broke out, my little dog, Lulu was getting attacked. I was trying to stop the fight but was overpowered. I was on the ground protecting Lulu’s head, neck and torso area. One of the dogs bit me when it was trying to get Lulu. My dog Stella (my soul dog) was the one that stopped both dogs from continuing to get to Lulu and I, so she got hurt as well. Both of my hands/wrists/forearms had some injuries.

Police and Firemen showed to make sure I was ok but I had to head to the ER ASAP.

I need to add, that this is not any of the dog’s fault. This can happen in packs. In a second, everything can change. I wasn’t bit intentionally. It is unfortunate though. I am one person trying to make a difference in this horrifying animal crisis in Houston. And this crisis continues to grow due to backyard breeders, people purchasing from these backyard breeders, people not spaying/neutering their pets, people not educating themselves on the current animal crisis in our city and state, and people getting their dog not with the mindset of committing to the dog and taking care of it.

I’ve seen some horrible things. People throwing dogs/cats out of moving vehicles on the freeways and streets. People sexually assaulting animals. People shooting dogs just because it’s a stray. People poisoning cats and dogs. People abusing their dogs. People that leave their dogs outside on a chain with no food and water slowly dying. It’s infuriating and I’m exhausted and now physically unable to do what my purpose calls me to do. But, I am one person.

Most people in rescue feel like this. I’m so appreciative of friends that have shown up for me in the last week. All fosters have been removed safely and are with new fosters or are in boarding with our training staff. I had 14 dog fosters and 3 cats and the team pulled up and just did their thing. It was amazing to see how everyone came together.

Lulu and Stella are healing now and doing well. Lulu is staying with

my friend, Tom (who is amazing and I will always trust him with my babies). Stella is at home with me under my nose as I’m writing this post.

On Sunday, I started to lose some function in my right hand and had to go see a hand surgeon. Good news, no fractures or infection. I’ll need physical/occupational therapy to help me move forward. I know no matter what I’m going to be ok. In this really challenging time, I’ve seen one million blessings come from it.

In other good news, my left hand is learning a ton of new skills :)
