Healing and Solidarity fund for DACA workers
Donation protected
Dear Community,
I recently decided to quit my job as an immigration paralegal to stand in solidarity with my co-workers, Fer, Yazmin, and Ozzy. My friends were treated inhumanely, and after they had dedicated their time and invested great effort into the firm, they were discarded without a second thought. I created this gofundme to financially support my co-workers, and for us to collectively heal from a toxic work environment.
Unfortunately, the law firm where we worked, did not practice the very social values they supposedly uphold. The law-firm created a toxic system of lateral violence, where me and my co-workers experienced queerphobia, wage theft, and emotional abuse. Because of the queerpobia, my non-binary coworker did not feel safe using they/them pronouns. This gofundme would help us heal from that toxicity, and also make up for the various times our boss failed to pay his workers. The following are just a couple examples of the flagrant wage theft we are trying to recover from: one of my friends still has not received compensation for one week of work, our boss also withheld maternity leave benefits for seven months from our beloved friend, and I am currently being cheated out of 40 hours of labor. On top of the financial abuse, we are trying to recover from the triggering events and the gaslighting we experienced from someone more powerful in our own community.
This situation has been extremely triggering and depressing for all of us. Our community has shown up for us in beautiful ways. From offering ceremony, native medicine, and providing mutual aid. We are now forced to look for work while surviving a pandemic. The funds will help with our housing expenses and will allow us to have access to self-care and healing that is so desperately needed. Please consider donating to support our healing so we can get back on our feet and find a job where we are treated with dignity.
For transparency:
1. I created this fundraiser to support my coworkers and me.
2. The money will be deposited in Oswald's (co-worker) bank account.
3. Oswald will electronically distribute the money to Yazmin, Fernando, and Rosario via Zelle. We will post updates after the money is delivered.
