Healing and Recovery

Donation protected

July 4th the news came via Lucia's friend; she was not well. Then came her own weak voice from an ambulance, and then her slower voice from the Intensive Care Unit of the Charité hospital, in Berlin. The doctors suspected a dangerous infection.

We both sped to the airport - our faithful prayers with her and our bodies catching up via cars and planes, buses and taxis. We found Lucia red, sweaty and delirious; her skin so painfully sensitive we had to hug her without touching. Sounds would make her cry and light hurt her eyes. We spent the first few days in near darkness.

The kind staff gave us a room for the first few days of the marathon. They help Lucia around the clock, studying her progress and testing for every challenge conceivable. Most of the staff, from Berlin, Turkey, Syria, Mexico and Brazil, work overtime with great love, generosity and patience. Concerned staff have shared tears and fears with us, as well as (by now - 5 days later) many laughs.

Lucia was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and is on 10 days of IV antibiotics.  As of this writing, her sight has returned to normal, her skin does not hurt, she has a good appetite and is walking daily in the local woods and fields. She even climbed 5 flights of stairs today! She has begun practicing Qigong again, which she loves. This is all thanks to Lucia's connection with the Divine, your fervent prayers, miso soup, local organic food, essential oil massages, and intensive care from the brilliant, kind, loving and highly skilled medical team here!

Staff here, including the accountants, all insist that a person's well being is more important than money. While health care is free for Germans, we are being offered a modest bill, which we invite you to help us with, only if it is easy and joyful for you. Many of you reading this may be having a hard time making ends meet, yourselves. Please know that your prayers of gratitude and your imagining that all these bills are paid for fully is a powerful contribution!

Cost estimates:
Flights: $6300
10 day hospital stay: $8000
Food and Lodging: $700
