My beautiful friend Rashmi was on her way home from work, her 9th year as an educator, when she was struck by a driver who was texting while driving at 80 mph on a residential street. The impact threw Rashmi into a gate, totalled her brand new car. Two good samaritans rushed to help and called emergency services.
Doctor later told Rash she was "lucky," had the driver hit her from the other side, she would have been fully paralyzed from the neck down or killed.
Rashmi's neck was broken in two places, a 23-in hematoma, required stitches, and underwent high-risk surgery. She is now in physical therapy, learning how to walk again at 37 years old. Currently, Rashmi has no idea when she may be able to leave the hospital.
Originally trained as a child psychologist, Rashmi has devoted her life to supporting children. She began her education career through Teach For America, Houston and has devoted the last 9 years to serving in historically marginalized and disenfranchised communities.
This has forced her to step away from the classroom, leaving her students without instruction and Rashmi needing to focus on her recovery and road to wellbeing.
Right now, Rashmi's full focus needs to be on healing, relearning basic movement, rebuilding strength, and getting back to a life she loves.
If you can support, by donating and/or sharing, we are grateful for you supporting Rashmi during this time.
