My name is Meg, and I am a survivor of sex trafficking and domestic abuse. Today, I am working to rebuild my life safely in Chico, California, and to continue healing from years of trauma.

For four years, I endured severe abuse at the hands of my ex. During that time, I experienced serious physical injuries and deep psychological trauma that required emergency medical care and long-term treatment.

After my first attempt to escape, the abuse escalated. I was forced into sex trafficking and subjected me to severe. I eventually escaped by running barefoot for miles until I reached safety. That moment saved my life and gave me the chance to survive.

Leaving that situation was incredibly difficult, but it was the most important step I have ever taken. It has now been five years since I was able to get out, and since then I have been focused on rebuilding my life in Chico and healing.

Over the years following my escape, I required emergency medical care and ongoing treatment for injuries and trauma-related health issues. As part of my recovery, I spent six months in a residential treatment program to address the emotional and psychological impact of the abuse I survived. That time in treatment was life-saving and gave me the tools and support I needed to begin rebuilding my life.

However, the cost of that care — along with emergency hospital visits, ongoing medical treatment, and trauma therapy — has left me with overwhelming medical debt.

I am now facing hospital bills, therapy expenses, and ongoing mental health care costs. While I am working hard to maintain stability and independence, the financial burden from lifesaving care has made it difficult to move forward.

I am asking for help to cover:

• Basic living expenses while I continue rebuilding my life
