Healing and Homecoming: My Mom's Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
Early in the morning on Sunday, September 8th, Jeanne Marie Russell had a stroke while on vacation in Yellowstone with her husband of 47 years, Skip Russell. She was airlifted to East Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she went into emergency thrombectomy surgery to remove the blood clot in her brain.
Her stroke was severe and was a complete right hemisphere stroke, which caused the majority of the right hemisphere of her brain to be damaged or completely dead brain tissue.
At this point in time, she is going to need to complete a minimum of 3-4 weeks of rehabilitation in Idaho Falls until she is stable enough to travel back home to Indiana. We have looked into a variety of options, such as an Air Ambulance, but the costs are simply too great. Keeping her health and safety as the main priority, the right thing to do is for my mom and dad to stay here for her to gain strength and hopefully be able to sit up on her own so she can fly back on commercial airlines with a reduced and minimized risk of seizure or an additional stroke.
It's really hard to ask for help, but if there is one thing our mom taught us, it is that faith and community carry us through the hardest times. If you can, please help us carry her through this.
We have itemized the known expenses that are causing hardship:
- In-home care: $116,000 (annually)
- House remodel for in-home care to be feasible: $100,000
- Wheelchair Accessible Van: $20,000
- Medicare max out-of-pocket: $16,000
- Ambulance ride home (if we can't fly): $15,000
- Hotel for my dad while in Idaho: $3,640
- Rental Car: $2,100
- Meals in Idaho: $2,000
- Mom's unwavering humor: PRICELESS
We realize this is a lot, but anything to help ease the burden on our parents is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bree and Chad
