Amelia Rose is a strong, beautiful and silly 9 1/2 month old. She loves growling, ( thats right, growling! ) laughing at her older sister Charlie, and listening to very specific songs to fall asleep to. I’m not going to name names, but the sound of silence by disturbed absolutely mesmerizes her! Her mom and dad are both nurses and work very hard to give Amelia and Charlie, the best life in the most loving home and the happiest of memories. We cannot forget Amelia‘s older brother Franklin, even though he is a French bulldog he is still a huge part of their very loving family.
Amelia was a rainbow baby who was prayed for, for a long time. She was born at 37 weeks as a tiny, beautiful baby. Amelia had a tough start having RSV and some respiratory issues in the beginning of her little life. She had to spend weeks in ICU care before she ever was able to get comfy in her own home. Luckily, once she was home, she got stronger and healthier, and has been thriving ever since.
Amelia has been getting bigger and developing more personality day by day and as the months have gone by we all have been left to wonder where the time has went thinking about her first birthday coming up in October. Her family continuously falls even more in love with her as the days go on.
Tragically in the late hours of Saturday night Amelia‘s health declined suddenly while she was asleep from a brain aneurysm. Things got very scary, very quickly and they knew an ambulance needed to be called immediately. Amelia was rushed to Robert Wood Hospital, and then medivac’ed to CHOP in Philadelphia once the doctors at Robert wood saw what they were dealing with and knew that it was out of their realm. They needed a much stronger team to save Amelia. Once Amelia arrived at CHOP They had to call in a neurosurgery team for emergent cases, from HOP. Hard decisions were made, and a very scary procedure had to be done. This procedure was luckily done successfully, but not easily. They were dealing with a huge aneurysm on a very tiny baby that was extremely rare . With that came a lot of swelling, bleeding, and pressure in the brain that required another extremely invasive operation. Amelia needed to have a large section of her skull removed to alliviate the pressure from the swelling and bleeding and to hopefully prevent brain damage and ultimately to save her life. While they were operating, they quickly realized Amelia has also suffered a very large stroke. She has been battling seizures since this procedure and is being kept sedated and comfortable so that her brain and body can heal.
Amelia is going to be staying at CHOP for awhile, while her parents are by her side 24/7.
They are also shuffling back-and-forth in turns to spend time with her daughter Charlie, and trying their hardest to keep things as normal as possible for her. Their hearts are heavy and worried for the well-being of both of their girls.
Amelia‘s healing and recovery is on a day-to-day basis at this point due to her body still needing to recover from the operation and the trauma of everything its being put through. Amelia has a very long road ahead of that will involve alot of therapy for a long time that will require as much support as possible from everyone who loves her. She has already proven how strong she is and shows us how hard she will fight to live a long healthy life with her family whom she means the absolute world to.
Her family and friends are praying for her and thinking of her every minute of every day. We are aching in ways we did not know possible. The feeling of helplessness when your heart is so broken for someone you love so very much is just debilitating. Amelia‘s mom and dad are the strongest people that I know and are putting on such brave faces for what will be probably the scariest time of their lives. They will always do absolutely anything for their children no matter what and they also will not ask for help. All of the messages and support from friends and family have meant so much to them to know how loved their Amelia is.
As helpless as I feel, I know that I still need to try to help in anyway possible and in all forms, and if I can help by lightening their load, even a little bit, that will bring so much happiness and hopefulness to me. Please keep our sweet Amelia, my sister Carly, her husband, Sam, and their daughter Charlie in your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate absolute every message and every good thought. ❤️
